My journey with Bionic Health began as a design consultant exploring concepts for their mobile application. The opportunity to collaborate with local startup veterans, whose combined experience made them perfectly suited for this ambitious healthcare challenge, was incredibly exciting. When they invited me to join the team, it was easy to say yes.
Here's the story of our first year and a half working to deliver modern medicine 3.0 to our members.

Our initial concepts centered on making communication with your doctor feel more like how we communicate with friends, family & co-workers. We created unique visualizations to show members how our recommendations could extend their healthspan. While we briefly considered including a death clock visualization, we ultimately decided its negative focus didn't align with our optimistic vision for the future of healthcare.
Building on feedback from our initial concepts, we refined our designs with careful attention to visual details. Though these early iterations used a more muted palette - and hadn't yet discovered our signature Bionic green - they laid the groundwork for our final design direction.
The final iteration puts connection at its core, letting members engage with both their care team and a HIPAA-compliant AI Assistant. Our Journey tab guides members through focused health modules with personalized action plans, while our dashboard wheel visualizes key biomarkers and generates meaningful metrics like biological age and percent optimal health.
My design process typically starts with key screens that members interact with daily, expanding outward to complete user journeys. By focusing on these critical touchpoints first, we created a robust component library that enabled quick, consistent development of secondary features and workflows.
As our product vision crystallized and we captured our design patterns in Figma, we needed to share these guidelines across the organization, and with external vendors.
Whether creating member videos, social content, or email campaigns, our team now had clear direction for maintaining a cohesive brand presence.
Our journey to reach potential members directly taught us valuable lessons about healthcare marketing. Working alongside sales, marketing, and behavioral science experts, we discovered that consistent, patient engagement often yielded the best results - even when those results took longer than initially expected.
Email became a cornerstone of our acquisition funnel, with newsletter subscribers consistently converting to full members. For new members, we designed targeted activation campaigns highlighting key features and benefits, using strategic messaging and app deep links to drive early engagement.
Our marketing site evolved alongside our product-market fit journey. We continuously refined our homepage and pricing page messaging while creating targeted landing pages for paid campaigns. As our product evolved, these crucial touchpoints adapted to tell our story more effectively.
We connected with our health-conscious audience beyond screens through strategically placed flyers at gyms, YMCAs, and smoothie shops. Our office featured versatile pop-up banners that traveled with us to conferences and fitness events, while targeted materials helped us build partnerships with trainers and corporate leaders.
